My name is Kaitlyn and I love to cook.  I'm the type of person who reads cookbooks for fun... even ones without pictures!  I also love organization.  Lists are a key part of my life!  I created this blog in December of 2012 as a way to share great recipes that I find, adapt, or create with my family and friends.  On Fridays, I also share a potential meal plan for the following week.  For me, one of the best ways to save money and stay generally sane is to plan out all of my meals for the week before going shopping on the weekend.  I end up with less wasted food (saves money!) and I never have to feel stressed about what I'm going to make for dinner.  I can actually enjoy the process of making healthy and delicious food each night.  We hardly ever go out to eat for multiple reasons (it saves money... I already have the meals planned... it's healthier... and I often think I could make whatever I am eating at the restaurant better at home!).

Food Preferences:  

I eat mostly vegetarian, though I am not officially one and I do occasionally eat meat.  The reason I eat mostly vegetarian is because that's the type of food I prefer.  It's also partially for health.  I tend to make almost everything from scratch and love the challenge of trying to make new foods that people don't tend to think could be made at home.  Yogurt, applesauce, almond butter, and English muffins are currently foods I make pretty much every week.  I've also gone through periods of making bagels, soft pretzels, ice cream, and much more.

There was a time when I had high blood pressure (due to a number of factors including some medications).  This has made me very aware of my sodium intake, even though my blood pressure is not an issue anymore.   I'm also very aware of saturated fat and bad vs. good fats recently, so I have cut back on the desserts that I make (though I do LOVE dessert) and cheese.


I have a basic camera and I'm not that into photography at this point, though I do want a decent photo of each recipe.   I think seeing a picture makes you much more excited about trying a recipe!

More About Me:

I live in Connecticut with my wonderful and supportive husband Mark, who will be mentioned frequently as he is my main food appreciator! (He sincerely thanks me for for every single meal- he is so sweet!)  Below is a picture of us eating gelato when we were in Italy this summer.  It was ridiculously hot so we ate lots of gelato :).  When not cooking, I am most likely doing math or teaching math!
